Nicknamed “Judy”, an Android based malware was found on 41 different apps developed by a Korean company and discovered by researchers at Check Point Security Technologies.

A dozen apps had the infected over 36.5 million users across the globe. One of the major reason why the malware could spread to such a huge portion is that it actually jumped into Google’s own security feature called ‘bouncer’.

But Google had consistently removed most of them. However, one of these applications stayed in the hidden state for one year before google security discovered it.

In order to be in safe side and also considering that there are loopholes in Google’s operating system, users should be careful with their own downloads from the Play Store.

As per the reports it was stated that “The malicious apps reached an astonishing spread between 4.5 million and 18.5 million downloads,”

Even for Google It is unclear how long the malicious code existed inside the apps, hence the actual spread of the malware remains unknown. The Check Point Security Technologies team also said they found apps from other developers that also included the malware code. It’s unclear whether these were knowingly or unknowingly affected.

The team at Check Point, which also discovered a virus intrusion on the Kodi platform, says it has notified Google about the security breach. Android doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to security, however Google says it has found and located all the Judy-hosting apps.

What is Judy Malware?

Judy is a piece of auto-clicking adware which was found on 41 apps developed by a Korean company. The actual meaning of it is that it will use a host phone to automatically click on adverts and generate revenue for the perpetrators.

The most scariest part of this malware is that Judy Malware is hiding in app code since April 2016.
